The right path to marriage

August 25, 2016

We’re going to a wedding this weekend for two friends who began dating right before our wedding two years ago. At a party last weekend, I asked the groom-to-be how he feels about getting married. “I’m ready,” he confidently said. “It feels weird, though, as if we should have gotten married earlier,” he continued. “I … More The right path to marriage

During the second service on Christmas Eve, I took a break in the volunteers’ area. Another volunteer started chatting with me, and told me he works for a mortgage lending company. “I had have a great house once, and the early 2000s were quite a time to be a mortgage broker. I thought I had it all,” he continued. “A huge house with lots of amenities and electronics, a pool, a great job . . . and then 2008 happened.” He looked down at his napkin of Christmas cookies. “The company I worked for went bankrupt. I lost almost everything. Rebuilding has taken a long time,” he mused. I told him my story about trying to buy a house a year ago, and how painful it was. Husband and I found our perfect home, in its perfect location, only to have the sale blow up the day before we were supposed to close. "Now that I’ve lost everything, I’m much more loose with the things I do have," he said. "I give away more. I give it away in faith that God’s going to use it better than I would. He knows what He’s doing with the things he entrusts us with, and the things He entrusts others with. "Our things aren’t ours. They belong to God.” twomoremiles.org #peace #stewardship #faith #ChristmasEve
Is #kindness doing whatever is necessary for your #marriage? Can it be the antidote for #selfishness? Ruth displayed the ultimate kindness to her mother-in-law. Are we capable of the same act of love, of going two more miles? www.twomoremiles.org

"Faithful to Me" by Jennifer Knapp has been stuck in my head all week. This week has been long so far, but God is as faithful now as he has been all of our lives. He'll see us through everything He brings us to, and more. He is the One who sees past all we see, and even when we think he's not there, He quietly reveals that He has us hemmed in his arms all along. #faithful
One thing no one tells the bride: How much time her #marriage will take, and how little time she'll have for her singlehood pursuits. Romans 12:9-21 gives us guidelines for living a peaceful life: Cling to what is good, be sincere, and pray, to name a few. But how to find a peaceful balance between husband, home, work, friends, and hobbies? www.twomoremiles.org.
